PERSONAL STATEMENT
- Title of the photograph.
- Name of the photographer.
- Date produced.
- A one liner about anything important of the time (history) linking to the photograph.
TECHNIQUE
- Photographic Attributes –
- Lighting (Has the lighting been created in the studio using studio lights, is it using natural light or is it in a low light situation. Has a flash been used?)
- Use of Depth of Field (If a lot of the photograph is out of focus in the foreground or background then it has a small depth of field. If most of the photograph is in focus then it has a large depth of field.)
- Use of Shutter Speed (If someone or something in is blurred then a slow shutter speed has been used. If someone or something that is moving is sharp then a fast shutter speed has been used.)
- Viewpoint (Is the camera at a low level looking up at the subject? Is the camera at eye level with the subject? Is the camera at a high level looking down at the subject?)
- Composition - framing/ cropping/ shape/ line/ angle/ colour & tone/ pattern/ depth/ composition overall (placement of the subject and objects).
- Style & Genre - style/ genre/ theme.
CONTENT
- Description of the photograph – subject/ background/ foreground/ people/ story/ mood or feeling/ symbol or metaphor.
- Meaning - Artist’s intention/ meaning.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
- Why have you chosen this photograph?
- Do you like or dislike the photograph? Explain why you think this?
- How does the mood/ atmosphere of the photograph make you feel?
- What excites you about the image?
- How is it relevant to your ideas?
- Will you use some of the same techniques in your own work? Why?
- Will you try and create the same atmosphere? Why?
